Water supplied from your taps and what is Hard Water?
Minerals in the water supply (called HARD WATER) overtime can start blocking some components and make valves that open and close in the machine get stuck, so they do not function properly and need to be cleaned / replaced.
Hard water is water that has high mineral content (in contrast with "soft water"). Hard water is formed when water percolates through deposits of limestone, chalk or gypsum which are largely made up of calcium and magnesium carbonates, bicarbonates and sulfates. During its journey from the source into your taps, water dissolves these minerals and carries the microscopic particles through your pipes.
When hard water is heated, the minerals leave the water and are deposited on outlets and inside appliances, significantly decreasing their lifespan
While it may be difficult to imagine how tiny amounts of calcium and magnesium can have that much of an effect, the difference between hard and soft water can be immense on your plumbing.
Mains Water connected Steam Cleaners:
The water supply and quality of water coming through your pipes and from your tap is very important for steam cleaners and other appliances. Minerals in the water supply (called HARD WATER) overtime can start blocking some components and make valves that open and close in the machine get stuck, so they do not function properly and need to be cleaned / replaced.
As it is difficult to know what minerals or contaminants might be in your local water supply it is highly recommended to take the following precautions.
- Install and use a Water Softener filter mains water supply to help purify the tap water and remove as many contaminates as possible before entering machine. (Water softener filters also need to be maintained and normally have a life span. These do not guarantee 100% limescale free, limescale is very complex topic, but it help significantly improve the life span of this device and its components.)
- Highly recommended to “flush and clean” the steam cleaner tank as required to help remove water contaminates and use a safe lime scale remover product to keep the steamer in good working order. You can use a Lime Scale Remover product (we sell one called Wassermann Lime Remover (powder) W-BOP-LR) to help clean the internals. The lime remover works overnight to try and break down any minerals inside the machine. And then you flush the unit with fresh water 2 more times.
